The Peer Support Apprentice answers to the Executive Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Peer Support Apprentice is responsible for the following duties:
• Answer phones
• Update and maintain membership database.
• Create Monthly Calendars for scheduled activities and events organized for members.
• Assist with and maintenance of filing system
• Develop and track signup sheets and waiting list for peer groups and activities
• Assist peers in the development and publication of monthly newsletter
• Promote the recovery model in the mental health community and build public recognition of the Muskegon Recovery Cooperative as part of the network of organizations serving the needs of mental health consumers.
• Provide representation on the change Agent team (CAT)
• Assist in facilitation of Assigned groups
Participate in assigned community groups
• Support members and associates by providing them with peer-based experiences and peer support as needed
• other duties as assigned
Eligibility:
The Recovery Cooperative of Muskegon is seeking individuals with a mental illness diagnosis and personal experiences in the realm of Mental Health recovery to fill this position. An individual who is currently or has previously received Community Mental Health services is Preferred.
Applicants will possess knowledge of the Recovery Model, Wellness Worldview, Peer Support, and the strategies used to promote continually improving lives.
Successful applicants should have a personal experience with peer run support organizations and be knowledgeable about the local, state and national services available to members of the cooperative.
Successful applicants should have insight into their own wellness and have strategies for their maintaining the recovery process. Familiarity with WRAP or other tools is required.
Successful applicants will possess the skill to maintain good inter-personal relationships and the skill to supervise member volunteers, paid staff and other participants.
Successful applicants should be comfortable in the role of learner, teacher, mentor, and peer.
Successful applicants should the ability to work with individuals who have mental illness, developmental disabilities or substance abuse histories and provide supports that are culturally aware.
Successful applicants should possess or have the ability to acquire the knowledge for databases, spreadsheet/ book keeping, desktop publishing
Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check;
Education: High school diploma or GED and relevant training and experience.

This position is a part time position. Hourly wage ranges from 9.50 to12.50 with a maximum of 20 hours available
